THE RANCH

OUR HISTORY

7P Ranch is owned and operated by Jesse and Elyse Thomson and their children Casey and Falyn. They have set up their training facility just East of Longview on the ranch that was settled originally by Elyse's grandfather. With a breathtaking view, rolling hills and green fields filled with horses it's pretty hard not to love what we do here at our ranch. We have a 70'x180' indoor arena, large outdoor arena both setup with roping alleys and chutes, indoor and outdoor round pens, 7-stall barn and multiple pens. Here at 7P Ranch we pride ourselves on our safe, clean facility for clients to bring their horses in for training. We are a multi-disipline facility, offering training for all types of horses, from rope horses to cow horses, starting colts and everything in-between we have a lot to offer.

JESSE THOMSON
JESSE THOMSON
OWNER/TRAINER

Jesse has been riding horses since before he could walk, growing up on a ranch raising cattle he started logging time in the saddle at an early age. Jesses family ran their cattle back up in the forestry West of Turner Valley in the McNabb area. Jesse worked with his dad in the hills, moving, doctoring and tending to cattle and the many jobs that went along with running the Sheep Creek Stock Association cattle. It was while working up there that Jesse started to find out that he had a knack with working with all the horses his dad required to do his job. He started to take a keen interest in working with the young horses in particular. After successfully working with his own young horses Jesse started to get calls from other people asking if he could do the same with their horses and that is where it all started and Jesse has built on his business ever since. Taking in as many opportunities as he could to take lessons and clinics from anyone he could learn from Jesse worked on expanding his knowledge in working with horses. This is where he started to fall in love with the sport of Working Cowhorse.

ELYSE THOMSON

ELYSE THOMSON
OWNER/MANAGER

While Elyse didn't grow up in the country, visits out to her Grandfathers farm started her love for horses at an early age. She shared her passion of horses with her Grandpa George and loved getting in rides with him and their long discussions about everything horse! Meeting Jesse at a young age and his love of horses just helped further her interest and knowledge of horses. Jesse and Elyse started their horse herd shortly after they were married choosing to spend money on their first 7P Ranch horse rather than buying expensive wedding rings and a honeymoon, LOL, and that's when it all began. It wasn't long before foals started to hit the ground first only one than two, then over time building up their herd with numbers as high as 20 some years. While Elyse enjoys showing and riding their horses, it is truly the breeding that is her number one love and has led her into the daily management of the 7P breeding program. "For me there is nothing as precious as those foals and their first days of life, wondering what they see, watching their curious little minds work, seeing them become bolder and taking more steps away from mom everyday, that is why we do this, it is the miracle of life, I absolutely love it, it never gets old".

SUPPORT STAFF

SUZON SCHAAL
VETERINARY CARE

TD Equine Veterinary Group She graduated from WCVM in 2004, and then completed an internship at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Center before returning to practice at Okotoks Animal Clinic in Alberta. Suzon is a well known and respected competitor in the discipline of Working Cow Horse.

DOUG SAPERGIA
FARRIER

Doug has been the main farrier at 7P for over 10 years. His expertise and the care he takes with our horses is second to none. Doug has the most patience out of any farrier we have ever seen and makes all our horses' experiences a good one, from the first trim to the first shoe job and everything after that, and I know that when they eventually go to good homes they will never have to worry about them being difficult for the farrier. Hoof care is of utmost importance to us here at the ranch, all of our horses are done every six weeks. We have a running joke that we just need to set up a room for Doug in our barn that's how often he is here, but like Grandpa George used to say, "no hoof no horse."

KATHY BUTKOVIC
EQUINE SPORT THERAPIST

Kathy (Equi-Sports Therapy) has become a regular face at the ranch. Kathy was introduced to us years ago by Don and Marci Edey, and we knew that she had always done amazing work on their horses, so sought out her services for our own horses. The sports of Rodeo and Working Cow horse are physically demanding on a horse and our equine athletes here at the ranch are treated as such, athletes. We strongly believe in Kathy's program and the therapy she does for our horses is amazing. We know they feel good after she works on them and it shows in their performance the next ride!
